First Lady
Hillary Clinton was one of the most accomplished first ladies in history; she appeared as a strong, smart and fashionable first lady. Hillary played a very important role in her husband Bill’s campaign; she greeted voters, spoke many moving speeches and was serving as one of Bills chief advisors. Many people, even Bill Clinton himself would describe Hillary and Bill as a “two for one deal”, it was during the 1992 campaign that Bill Clinton stated it was a “twofer” presidency. Hillary was willing to put as much effort and work into her country as her husband.
Hillary was a big activist for women’s and children’s rights, she especially focused on the health care of children during her time as first lady. Creating the Children’s Health Insurance Plan was one of Hillary’s great accomplishments, along with tackling issues concerning adoption, family safety and foster care. A lot of the reasons behind Hillary’s choice in this cause were to do with her internship during the summer of 1970 with Marian Wright Edelman. Marian was big in the civil rights community and was a well-known activist in the states. During Hillary’s internship with Marian she interviewed migrant workers on their living, working and family conditions (specifically on the health and education of their children). This interviewing process was Hillary’s gateway into the activist world and she continued to engaged in it. In 1973, she took on a project that trying to figure out why 2 million U.S. children were not in school. During her time as First Lady Hillary also showed many moments of respect and strength towards women, “Human rights are women’s right and women’s rights and human rights” is a famous quote spoken by Hillary. |
It makes sense that Hillary is someone who wanted to change the way women were perceived in society, she herself was a woman trying to accomplish great things in a time where women were strictly thought of a house wives. Hillary was a mother as well as a working woman, and her workload became even greater once she was elected to office. Hillary was elected the state senate of New York in 2001. Hillary beamed with straight and intelligence, she made men respect her and she never appeared weak to anyone especially in the way she dressed.
During her time as First Lady Hillary was well known for her memorable pantsuits that she worse time to time and they represented much more than just a fashion statement. They represented a woman who was going against the conventional norms, dressing in a way that showed authority and masculinity. Hilary’s evolving style was a model for businesswomen across America; she was an image of what to wear to the office showing her refined gender expectations. Her striking wardrobe presented her in powerful way, showing little skin and demanding much respect. Seeing Hillary in a pantsuit became more and more common throughout her time as First Lady, and today she still continues to resemble that image of a strong striking woman in a well-tailored pantsuit. |
